Chris caught up with Cliff Stubblefield and his sons Miles and Max at the 2026 Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to check out their sharp 1998 Peterbilt 379.
This isn't just a show truck. Cliff has owned the 379 for nearly 16 years, and it still earns its keep pulling a flatbed and hauling steel on runs between Alabama, Ohio, Chicago and back. With approximately 2.5 million miles, a 500 Detroit, 13-speed transmission and 3.70 rears, this Peterbilt has plenty of real working-truck history behind it.
Cliff walks us through some of the custom touches, including the RoadWorks bumper and grille, Dane Nelson bug shield, RLK visor, six-inch Dynaflex stacks and the "Homer" nickname etched into the glass by his wife. We also get a look inside the cab, where Cliff, his wife and a friend completely redid the interior themselves, smoothing and color-matching the dash and adding wood-grain wrapped panels.
At night, the truck comes alive with around 25 Grand General gold-and-amber watermelon lights, giving this hard-working 379 a clean classic look without going overboard.
We also talk about Cliff's 24 years in trucking, following in his father's footsteps, what his sons see themselves doing in the future, and their thoughts on the Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown.
