With the exception of the Wolsztyn area in the south west of the country, main line steam traction in Poland was almost extinct by the early 1990s. The Wolsztyn Experience was established to provide footplate experience for enthusiasts. The cost of continuing with steam traction was partly funded by the fees charged for the opportunity to drive a steam locomotive on the main line in revenue earning service. This unique activity has continued almost uninterrupted to the present day.
The Wolsztyn Experience not only provides driving experience but provided the opportunity to ride behind, photograph and film steam hauled passenger trains on the main line. Great value packages including accommodation are available from the Wolsztyn Experience
