How do metro trains stay warm during freezing winters? The answer lies in CO₂ heat pump air-conditioning technology developed by CRRC Dalian Institute. Using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant and advanced transcritical cycle technology, the system delivers stable heating even in extreme cold, maintaining a comfortable cabin temperature for passengers.
Compared with conventional air-conditioning systems, the CO₂ heat pump operates across a wider temperature range and achieves higher energy efficiency. It can save over 80,000 kWh of electricity per train each year on northern above-ground lines, while reducing energy consumption by more than 20–30%. Designed for both performance and sustainability, this technology helps make winter journeys warmer, greener, and more reliable.
