The City of Pompano Beach is proud to announce another major milestone: the completion of its next GO Pompano! project, Fire Station 52.
In 2018, Pompano Beach voters overwhelmingly approved the General Obligation (GO) Bond, funding critical improvements to enhance public safety, upgrade roadways, and beautify public spaces across the City.
On Wednesday September 3rd, City officials hosted a ribbon-cutting or, fittingly, the uncoupling of a fire hose to dedicate the brand-new Fire Station 52, located at 10 NW 27 Avenue.
This state-of-the-art facility was dedicated to retired Pompano Beach Firefighter and former City Commissioner Woodrow “Woody” Poitier. Woody was the first African American Firefighter for the City of Pompano Beach.
Mr. Poitier has devoted countless hours to the Pompano Beach community. Over his 24 years of service as a firefighter and paramedic, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He went on to serve six years and two months as the District 4 Commissioner, representing the Northwest community with distinction. In 1986, he was named Firefighter of the Year. Beyond public service, he is a respected funeral director, community activist, and continues to serve on both the Housing Authority Board and the EMS Advisory Board for the City.
The new Fire Station 52 sits on a 1.1-acre site and features a 16,145-square-foot, two-story structure built with CBS construction to withstand Category 5 hurricane-force winds. It includes a standing seam metal roof, exterior impact windows and doors, reinforced masonry walls, and stucco finishes.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the station incorporates xeriscape landscaping, low-flow plumbing fixtures, a full backup generator system, and other green features. The facility was built to meet the Florida Green Building Coalition Gold certification standard.
Inside, Fire Station 52 offers a modern, functional layout with four drive-through apparatus bays, a training room, a physical fitness room, a day room, a full kitchen, seven individual bunk rooms, and six private officers’ quarters.
