Evan Carmichael explains that the technical steps to start on YouTube are not the hard part, since anyone with a phone and a Gmail account can begin recording and uploading within minutes. The real barrier is belief, the nagging voice asking who would ever want to listen to your story or worrying about needing better equipment before starting.

He shares that it took him roughly five years of consistent content to reach just two thousand subscribers, a stretch of time that looked like total failure from the outside. Evan says he kept going anyway because he believed even a small handful of viewers could include someone who genuinely needed to hear exactly what he had to say.

Evan points out that the pandemic pushed nearly everyone to become comfortable with tools like Zoom, which removed one of the biggest excuses people once had for not starting a show. He notes that his interviews with figures like Tony Robbins and Matthew McConaughey were essentially just Zoom calls, proving that expensive gear and elaborate setups were never actually required to begin.

He shares one of his favorite pieces of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, which is to start a show specifically as a way to access mentorship. Reaching out to an established entrepreneur and inviting them onto a brand new show, rather than simply asking for their time, works remarkably well because mentors genuinely enjoy mentoring but dislike wasting time on people who will not follow through.

Evan explains that a new show gives a guest useful content for themselves, gives the host direct access to advice they could never otherwise afford, and builds a real relationship in the process. He frames it as one of the fastest and most effective ways for an unsure entrepreneur to start building both a network and a business at the same time.
