Your purpose comes from your pain, and Evan Carmichael explains that everyone wants to feel like they matter and that what they do serves a bigger meaning. The most emotional form of purpose comes from helping people who are going through the exact thing you went through or are still working through yourself. He compares it to the dopamine hit you get from holding a door for someone or buying a coffee for a stranger, except helping someone through real struggle runs much deeper. That deeper level of service and satisfaction comes specifically from sharing your story with people who see hope in it because of what you overcame.

Evan describes a scenario where someone tells you they want to become a creator but does not think their story matters or that they are good enough, and their first video feels like a total failure. If you share your own story and help them keep going, watching them grow over the next few months creates a level of pride and satisfaction that far outweighs any small act of kindness. That growth happens because you had the courage to share your story from a place of service, not ego, and it opened up a path for them that they did not believe was possible before.

Evan gets specific about his own pain, explaining that as an entrepreneur he struggled badly to get his first software company off the ground and made it harder on himself by refusing to ask for help. He was making about 300 dollars a month, could not afford basic things like pizza or beer with friends, and lied about how well things were going instead of admitting he was struggling. He did not believe in himself or his abilities during that period, and it made the climb longer and harder than it needed to be.

Eventually Evan made it through that phase, and that exact struggle is what allows him to help other entrepreneurs going through the same thing today. He points out that if you are an adult, you have already crossed dark moments and come out stronger than you thought was possible at the time. The challenge most people face is believing they have not done anything significant enough to help or teach others, thinking they need to be a famous expert first. That belief is false, because going back to who you were five years ago is proof you already have something valuable to offer.

There are millions of people stuck exactly where you were five years ago, and your story is the bridge that can pull them forward. Evan's core message is that you do not need to have arrived at some perfect destination to be useful to someone else, you just need to be honest about the pain you have already worked through. That honesty, shared with the right person at the right time, can change the entire direction of their life. Go help the person who is standing where you used to stand.
