When Starr scores films she will often treat or prepare her Steinway with different types of fabric, felt or other items to give the piano a darker, more harmonically complex and intimate sound. It also exposes the sound of the inner workings of the instrument and illuminates the sound of the moving wood, felt and metal. She has decided to release some pieces that she has written using these techniques, which take the listener on a warm and intimate journey.
