Okay, Chris has decided that there is more to be said about the Daedalus class, the early Starfleet starship class that has been retconned in as THE workhorse starship of the early Federation. (Basically, every time the Enterprise finds a society that had encountered a Starfleet ship in the past, it was a Daedalus.)
So let's spend a little bit more time looking at the design, and why we're not even sure how big it is.

Rick Sternbach and Mike Okuda defined Star Trek more than any people other than the Genes (Roddenberry & Coon) themselves. Last episode we looked at Sternbachs Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology (1979). This week well do a deep dive on a standout ship of that book, the Marshall-class destroyer. Well look at what little history we have, put it in context, and then do a deep dive on the most extensive source available on the class, the (non-canon) blueeprints of Jim JBOT Botaitis [https://www.jbot.ca/blueprints.shtml]. (Weve looked at his stuff before, and while we have some differences of opinion in approach, we *really* like his stuff.) And then well finish with a few ideas about variants and the like. So, come explore the Marshall class!
