During the Enterprise's mission to transport a very dangerous cargo to a Federation research installation, an alien entity slips aboard the ship for the purpose of learning about the Enterprise and its crew; It decides however that the best way to accomplish this mission is to assume the role of an infant, to take the perspective of a humanoid from literally the instant of conception and impregnates Counselor Troi.
Wesley Crusher is a little down on the prospect of having to leave the Enterprise in order to join his mother at Starfleet Medical. The ship's new bartender, Guinan offers Wes numerous drinks and a little advice on how it isn't always necessary to displace your preferences in order to satisfy the expectations of others.
