Episode: "The Schizoid Man"
Doctor Ira Graves, one of humaniy's leading mind in the field of cybernetics is dying from an incurable illness. Keen on bridging the gap between man and machine, Graves has created a system, a process by which it is now possible to transfer the wealth of a persons knowledge into a computer; an achievement that he feels is a step closer to achieving immoratlity.
Answering the distress call from Graves's world, an away team arrive to see if anything can be done to save Graves's life or at least make him comfortable. Unfortunately Doctor Graves dies before the away mission is even concluded.
Shortly after departing Graves's world, Commander Data's personality starts to change, exhibiting traits that are not unlike those showcased aplenty by Ira Graves; is this simply mimicry on Data's part? - Of course not. Captain Picard connects the dots: It would appear that shortly before his death, Ira Graves not only achieved the successful migration of his knowledge into Data's brain, but his consciousness aswell.
Data visits Graves's young assistant Kareen Brianon in Ten Forward to quietly reveal to her that he is in fact Ira Graves. Graves offers Kareen an opportunity to experience the same but doesn't quite get the response he was expecting; his reaction to her rejection is also a surprise to even him.
