Stardate 6142.5
The mining colony Coriolanus IV has failed to check for their status update. The colony is a key source of boridium ore, which is important for the manufacture of high strength alloys used in armored hull plating, survival gear, and energy containment devices. The colony has been in operation for two earth years without any major incidents past relatively minor injuries. I expect a routine repair of their subspace transmitter, but as the Janus VI incident shows us, we have to be ready for anything, even silicon based cave slugs that don’t understand pronoun case. We are proceeding the Coriolanus system at warp 4.
Our contact on the colony is Dr. Akio Haruhito. He is a Starfleet geologist assigned to the colony and the only member of Starfleet on the planet. His reports have been regular and detailed, if a bit boring for my tastes, but I suppose that’s why I leave science to the scientists. We are expect in system by the end of the day.
