The Kongzi is en route to the homeworld of an insectile race called the H'p-t'k, or at least that's the inexcusably unpronounceable name that the Federation linguists involved in first contact gave them. Their language consists in a series of tactile signals in which various touch sensitive dermal structures on the body of the "listener" are touched by the "speaker's" antennae and hands. This unusual method of communication has largely been impenetrable to the universal translators and xenolinguists have made only limited progress. Nevertheless they made first contact with the federation, and as far as anyone can tell they want to negotiate a trade agreement. Starfleet considers this a good opportunity to establish a diplomatic foothold with a species native to the Shackleton Expanse. Apparently, the Kongzi is the fanciest and most impressive ship in the Expanse, and so the job of negotiating this trade agreement falls to us, especially to me as the captain.
