In this video, Star Command, released in 1989 for the Atari ST by Strategic Simulations, Inc.
You are in command of a group of eight characters. These characters are assigned missions by Star Command, the organization that is responsible for keeping humanity safe. As your characters complete missions, they will gain power, allowing them to take on greater challenges.
The goal in Star Command is to complete each mission assigned to your crew, from your first anti-piracy patrol all the way through the climactic final mission to save mankind.
Despite the many disk accesses, the graphics are limited because the game is mostly text-driven and sound fx are rare and are standard ST quality. I cannot judge the playability because Star Command is a massive game meant to be played for many hours so I'll copy paste a brief review from ST Format:
A vast role-playing adventure with varied tasks and challenges this may be. But it's too slow and too cumbersome to be worth the effort to find out. The crime of which some ST games are accused is exceptional graphics with insufficient gameplay. This is not the case for Star Command, as there are hardly any graphics and the gameplay is tedious and overly complex. The strategy elements remain underwhelming due to a lack of explanation in the manual, while the role-playing fragments the game, with everything having to be done eight times, not once.
Star Command is not a game the first time role player could enjoy without suffering long hours of frustration as squads are repeatedly wiped out. The experienced role-player on the other hand would find the limitations of the text driven "adventure" unbearable.
