I am getting the impression that Impact can do more than Helix. That's what the laser's added mining risk is for. Much higher instability, but compensated for with a larger optimum window, faster optimum speed so you have to watch out once you enter the green zone and keep it there, significant reduction of resistance.
Also, smaller rocks might cause overcharge (the window can be quite narrow) but a little bit doesn't harm you and only nukes some mineral contents.

I also got the impression that distance doesn't matter as long as you stay within the optimal window. If that is so, while this makes positioning easier, it would also negate a gameplay aspect abou high skill and risking particularly massive overcharge damage to your ship.

P..S.: The rock's original resistance is 0.42. I forgot to include that bit, not realizing that the diplay was bugged again and didn't rescan when turning the laser off as it always does when I DON'T want it.
