During my last winter camp, I really put my aluminum mess kit through the ringer. It's still in ok shape, but I am afraid it isn't going to put up with too many more fires before it will need to retire so I thought I would try the Stanley Camp Cook and Cup Set out.
I was walking through my local Target the other day when I saw this on the shelf in the camping section. It was reasonably priced, so I decided to pick it up and give it a shot. It is a 24oz stainless steel pot that came with two heavy duty plastic cups inside. It also features a locking handle and vented lid.
According to the instructions, it is made for the grill, and warned against using it with an open flame. My guess on the warning is because of the plastic tab on the lid. I have since removed the tab, and used it with a campfire and it works beautifully.
In this video I give a general overview of the product and give it an initial burn test using my aluminum water bottle alcohol stove that I made in a previous video. As you will see in the video, this cookpot does not work too well with this particular stove, so I am going to have to try to find a better stove to work with it.
After having tried this in camp, I can say that I recommend this product. It's not too heavy and is very versatile for what it is. Plus it was only $13.99. My only recommendation if you decide to pick one of these up is to replace the plastic tab on the lid with a keychain ring.
