St.Louis Blues World's Greatest J.B. 1978
World's Greatest Jazz Band at the 1978 Nice Festival in France. When I saw and listened to this clip after not having experienced it for quite a while I must consider this as one of my favourite pieces of Jazz. The creativity and interplay between these superb stars is at the highest standard. This clip goes for sure into my favourites.
Listen to the exchange chorusses between trumpeter Yank Lawson and trombonist George Masso and then again between sop saxophonist Bob Wilber and tenorman Bud Freeman.
But don't forget the unique pianosolos of Dick Hyman and of course some nice bass work by co-leader Bob Haggart.
All together very hard to beat
