UncommentatedPannen | SSL Eyerok Above Loading Zone Idea @UncommentatedPannen | Uploaded 6 years ago | Updated 17 hours ago
This is an idea of how we could save an A press on the secrets star in SSL by manipulating Eyerok to move sideways and upwards to way above the loading zone floor triangles, allowing us to reach the top of the pyramid 0x. This idea was thought of by Tyler Kehne and has been floating around for a while now, so I figured I'd officially document it for convenience. Sadly, this still wouldn't let us reach the Inside the Ancient Pyramid star 0x, since we end up landing just before that star's platform.
Unfortunately, we don't have a way to manipulate Eyerok arbitrarily, and so this idea is only theoretical at the moment. I asked bad_boot to elaborate on how likely to exist Eyerok manipulation is, and here's his paraphrased answer: "Typically, Eyerok moves to fixed y values. There are only two ways to give Eyerok positive y speed. One is by attacking Eyerok, and the other is by using this theoretical glitch (youtu.be/sD2Ua0YPjVA). Even if you could do the former repeatedly in quick succession, Eyerok would die before it could get high enough. The latter is only RIP because of the 100 speed thing (i.e. how would Mario stay on Eyerok past the ceiling if Eyerok is moving upwards at 100 units/frame?). And Eyerok might not be able to move horizontally, though that's not confirmed. There's clearly code there to allow horizontal movement, but the question is whether that code is actually used in practice."
