UncommentatedPannen | Coin Falling Through the Floor @UncommentatedPannen | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 20 hours ago
I explain the circumstances that led to a coin falling through the floor in one of cheese05's twitch streams.
A coin's terminal velocity is 78 units, and a floor hitbox is 78 units tall. This means that a coin can't pass through a flat floor without colliding with the floor hitbox. But for a slanted floor, the coin can have a trajectory that passes over the floor hitbox. However, the programmers anticipated this, and so they put in a failsafe so that if a coin falls through a floor, then it will snap to the floor. Interestingly, this failsafe doesn't occur on the frame when a coin enters water, so if a coin passes over a floor hitbox and also enters water on the same frame, then it can successfully pass through the floor.
Thanks to bad_boot for looking into this phenomenon for me (youtube.com/channel/UC280b7IZCFnzCR0RCwi6JYg).
