The Spotlight Golf Machine (SGM) was manufactured by the Spotlight Golf Co. Ltd. in the UK allegedly until 1939. The start date is dubious until evidence can be found. The name is derived from the display technology: a spot of light representing a ball is focused on the back of a translucent display scroll and visible through it.
It is an arcade-style golf simulation game with a display unit that looks like a grandfather clock.
A player hits a ball attached to a string connected to the machine, but it is what happens next that has computer historians excited.
The machine measures the direction, elevation, distance and spin of each shot using a variety of early computing technologies.
There is debate about whether the machine is a computer or not. (ABC News: Guy Stayner)
Spotlight then plots the virtual finishing point of the ball on a golf hole painted onto a canvas scroll inside the display unit.
It was touted as allowing golfers to play courses like St Andrews and Muirfield in the comfort of their own homes.
"Every hit is registered for lie and position and you play every club in the bag," read an ad that ran in the Times in 1936.

War simulates the card game of the same name. Both the player and the computer get half a deck of cards and show the top card on their deck each turn; whoever has the highest card wins that turn. When cards of equal value are placed, each player draws another card, and whoever wins that battle wins all previous cards. The game continues until a player runs out of cards or decides to stop.

Datsun 280 ZZZAP, also released unbranded as Midnight Racer is an early racing arcade game by Midway designed by Jay Fenton.
Midway got the license from other racer game called , Night Racer designed by Ted Michon for Micronetics
the two companies reportedly struck a licensing deal whereby both would release their games at the same time.
Midnite Racer was introduced at the 1976 AMOA show in November. Confusion likely reigned on the show floor as two other versions of the same game - Micronetics’ Night Racer and Atari’s Night Driver – appeared at the very same show.
The name Midnite Racer, however, didn’t last long. After the show, Bally cooked up a promotion that included a grand prize of a 1977 Datsun 280Z.
Realizing that their new video driving game would be a perfect tie-in, they renamed it 280 Zzzap
The title was named after the US advertising campaign for the Datsun 280Z.
Players can drive up to 200 miles per hour (320 km/h) while navigating a tricky road course at night. Players must watch out for treacherous turns, nasty competitors, and the ever-present time limit.
It is one of the earliest games, if not the earliest, with authorized branding.
