Personal best from 2020/12/17 to 2021/08/04.
356 frames timed from the first frame the opening cutscene textbox appears to the frame that Quote explodes.
Honestly, I don't know if this is still improvable...maybe there's another frame to save in the first room? I timed a bunch of attempts though and couldn't get a room 1 any faster than this.
I wonder if the digital version of the game would give a loading time advantage? (Or if a different soundtrack setting would make any difference? I do know that original graphics saves a frame over new graphics on the room transition.)
Here's the hard mode version of this run (tied with this run): youtu.be/Yk8K4zggUnw
And the easy mode version (128 frames longer than this run because that's how long your i-frames last): youtu.be/tCsXVwtjQ-4

![[TAS] The 2000 IQ Cave Story Quiz: Time Trial in 0452
Only minor quiz spoilers here. If you want to test your own Cave Story IQ first, go here: https://doukutsuclub.knack.com/database#search-database/mod-details/5ce12d882acb7100072dc926/
The time trial mode of this mod is unlocked after completing the normal quiz and features only the questions that have non-trivial execution (i.e., more than just pick the correct answer).
The spikes are _supposed_ to hurt you, but with subpixel-perfect precision (1/512th pixel) you can slip in between them without taking damage. (Dont try it at home, youll never get it.)
I deliberately answered Q45 incorrectly because it would have been much slower to get the correct answer. Thankfully, its not required to complete all of the questions perfectly in order to finish the time trial. :P
Fun fact: I realized after making this TAS in Hourglass and then trying to encode the video that there were some...issues with using Hourglass for this (mostly with the weird framerate of the game, and that I had mistakenly specified the wrong framerate for the movie). So I had to make a Linux port so I could dump the video through libTAS instead.
btw Enlight, wtf is that MOD command, it makes no sense- [TAS] The 2000 IQ Cave Story Quiz: Time Trial in 0452](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/eoI9b1rP3aQ/mqdefault.jpg)

![[TAS] Super Mario Bros. AISSON in 4:40.937 (4:37.659 RTA timing)
For those who dont know, AISSON is a Game Genie code that allows Mario to go through walls. (But only from the left side, technically)
Anyways, some people have been asking for this, so here you go. There is probably still a frame or two (or more) to save in 8-4.
I wasted some frames in basically every level except 4-2 and 8-4 for entertainment, because all of those other levels have super lenient framerules.
Shoutouts to KrillerCoinCount and KrillerStartFrame :)
(actually, the latter might be off by one, oops)
Oh, also, I used L+R in this TAS, which goes against the RTA category rules. Sorry :(
