This third installment of “Heroes & Villains,” continues with the character analysis of Spiderman. In part 1, we discussed how discovering this character awakened my urge to create during early childhood and gave an overview of some of basic points of the character. In part two we examined the life of Peter Parker, his life, and how backstory sets up all the psycholocal issues a character needs to overcome, ending at the inciting incident that gave birth to the franchise: being bitten by a radioactive spider.
In part three, we’re putting it all together and seeing how backstory, the character’s wound, and coping with the guilt of responsibility after the death of his uncle Ben, blossoms into a chararacter who is both flawed and trying to overcome his inner demons as he battles their real life manifestations in the form of villains. Everything projects, and Spiderman is a great example of making it all come together with strong symbology that pulls readers into a vicarious experience that has been the archetype for many comic book characters since.
