In "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," Miles Morales and the fate of the multiverse are left in great peril. The film opens with Gwen Stacey recapping her previous adventure and revealing her backstory, including the death of her friend Peter Parker. Gwen encounters the Vulture from a Renaissance-era universe and is aided by Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Woman. Meanwhile, Miles is struggling to balance his school life and his duties as Spider-Man when he confronts a supervillain called The Spot.
Miles learns that The Spot is a former scientist who gained powers after the events of the first film. Spot plans to absorb energy from colliders across different dimensions to bring Miles down. Miles follows Gwen to a crime scene and discovers that Spot has fused with a collider in Alchemax. Together with Gwen, Spider-Man India, and Spider-Punk, they try to stop Spot, but the lab begins to collapse. They manage to save citizens before a portal opens and starts absorbing parts of their universe.
The Spider-People arrive at the headquarters of the Spider Society, where Miles learns about the importance of Canon Events and the consequences of altering them. When Miles realizes his father's life is in danger, he tries to save him but is confronted by the other Spider-People. Miles escapes and is chased through the facility until he activates a machine that sends him back to his universe.
In Miles's universe, he discovers that he has been sent to the wrong universe, where his uncle Aaron is alive and the Prowler is an alternate version of himself. Meanwhile, Gwen forms a team of Spider-People to rescue Miles. The movie ends with Miles tied up by the alternate Prowler, setting up the continuation in "Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse."
