The SAG-AFTRA union, unable to reach an agreement with the studios, announced a strike as of July 14. This strike, along with the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America, brings production to a halt for any SAG-AFTRA project, including those within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In the aftermath of Deadpool 2, Deadpool uses Cable's time machine to change history. He travels to the future and finds an elderly and dying Logan. Deadpool uses the time machine to make Logan younger and cure him. However, Logan doesn't recognize Wade and asks him to leave. Wade insists on becoming friends, but before they can return to the past, they are captured by the TVA's Minute Men police force.
The TVA, overwhelmed by the emergence of the multiverse, is unable to monitor everything. They have concerns about the Fox universe and its different methods of time travel. The TVA mentions that they have already returned Cable to his timeline. Wade and Logan are quickly pruned by the TVA. Wolverine acquires a yellow suit left by another deceased Wolverine in The Void. Wolverine is angry with Deadpool for involving him in all of this, but they realize their battle is pointless since they can't die.
In The Void, they encounter various Fox locations and characters that have been pruned, including the 2015 version of the Fantastic Four, Lady Deadpool, and Dogpool, who join their cause. Mr. Paradox, a TVA agent and a fan of Wolverine and Deadpool, brings them back. He convinces the TVA to give them another chance if they assist him in pruning a timeline that has gone out of control.
They agree to help and travel to Universe 838, where Wanda, possessed by the 616 version of herself, has lost her mind and reshaped the world. Magneto, Wanda's father, leads a new Illuminati that includes Fox characters like Daredevil, Elektra, and Sue Storm. Wolverine, Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, and the TVA arrive in 838 NYC to fight the Illuminati. With the help of the TVA, they defeat the Illuminati.
Logan steals the TVA's device to fulfill his own goal of changing the events of X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand to save Jean and the other mutants from dying. However, meddling with the timeline poses risks, and Paradox and Wade go after him. The Illuminati also acquires a TVA device and follows them. Eventually, the X-Men from Logan's Earth are enlisted by the TVA to convince him to surrender peacefully.
A major battle takes place in X2, similar to that of The Last Stand, against 838 Magneto, with Deadpool and Logan recruiting an army of Fox characters. Lady Deadpool and the X2 version of Logan die at the hands of 838 Magneto. Jean and 838 Wanda engage in a fight, with Jean emerging as the victor. Jean gives Wanda the cure, weakening her.
They emerge victorious, and the TVA prunes Universe 838. Deadpool and Logan are told that they will be taken back to their original timeline, but Deadpool chooses to prune the X2 timeline to enter the MCU. The TVA, unsure of what to do with them, throws Deadpool, Dogpool, the X2 X-Men, Future Logan, Mr. Paradox, and 838 Wanda into the MCU.
