Didn't make it to Hell, but this was the first time in the Daily Challenges stuff that I was able to salvage a botched Hell / City of Gold run and at least turn it into a successful Olmec defeat. (Skipping the Worm and Mothership makes that fact less impressive, but at least it's a decent chunk of footage anyway. One of my favorite runs actually due to a number of interesting ups and downs.)

Spelunky Lesson of the Day: Didn't die, though I did waste the Ankh. Tiki Men Boomerangs can be a real pain in the Jungle, especially if they can knock you into a spike trap. Always try to either completely avoid Tiki Men or kill them from afar (or above) as they are some of the most dangerous enemies in the game due to their ability to chain you into all manner of nasty surprises. Even if they don't outright kill you, they can knock a lot of health off in a short time.

26 - Since I only had one bomb left, I really had to make it count. Fortunately, with the aid of a rope, I did make it count. That extent of Udjat Eye clicking tells you that are close to get to the buried market entrance in a single bomb. I recommend carrying two anyways just in case, but sometimes you end up like me and just have to make the limited supplies work.

53 - Such an odd bug. It has something to do with shopkeepers throwing these slaves, but I'm not sure what the exact cause is as it certainly doesn't always happen.

54 - I saw it coming, and I thought I got lucky enough to bypass it, but it still got me anyway. It actually looks like I rebounded off the spike trap and got killed by the returning boomerang rather than the trap itself.

33 - Not only did the slave survive, it even managed to nab a shotgun all by itself! I don't tend to have high expectations for slave AI, so it exceeded them this time (though I'm sure the worm tongue stunlock on the shopkeeper helped).

56 - Normally I kill slaves anyway if they somehow manage to survive escaping their shops since I don't want to be bothered by them potentially accidentally killing me, but I decided to let this one live to see if he would remain moderately competent...

34 - ...which, of course, he did not. Wishful thinking on my part, really. If there was an altar on this level, he would've made a fine sacrifice though. Worth the same as a damsel.

02 - It's always fun to be able to get a Kapala in the Temple after going most of the run without it. That said, it was only feasible for this run since I didn't have to worry about saving up limited bombs for the City of Gold.

45 - I really didn't think that through, did I? Ah well, the Sceptre is kind of a liability anyway. Always have to worry if I'm going to accidentally kill myself when firing it, and there's no such problem with the omnipresent shotgun.

43 - Man, a Kapala AND invigoration, all in the Temple. Don't think I ever pulled that off before.

29 - Well, so much for the sacrificial damsel.

30 - Pretty cool how that crush block stopped the scorpion. It might've hit me (and chained me into a nasty spike trap combo) otherwise.

00 - I think this was the first time I managed to nab a "Prayers to Kali" idol without a jetpack (and no bombs on top of it), so that's pretty cool.

38 - Fuck, that was close. That monkey and stun came out of nowhere too.

40 - I didn't plan on using the quick but dangerous strategy to defeat Olmec, but the opportunity presented itself and I took it.

14 - Ha ha, oh that. I didn't actually unlock the retro Spelunky character or anything like that, I just had the custom-but-still-not-yet-finished (because I'm kind of lazy, and busy) spritesheet replacing the jungle man character that you'd normally get here. (Also, interestingly, as I found out way back when, he's not unlocked by beating Hell. This was my first Olmec win for the Steam version of the game, and he only unlocks there while Yang only unlocks for a Yama win.)

14 - While it doesn't really matter, unfortunately my ethernet cable was slightly yanked sometime before the run ended, so my highscore didn't get posted for that day (just sent the default of $0 apparently). Ah well.
