Hello! In this video I’ll show you how to copy color grading from this photo.
To begin with, let's look at the distribution of colors of my reference image on Vectorscope. I’m opening Vectorscope and choosing Reference there. The colors of the reference look like teal orange. Here are the colors of my image at Vectorscope. I’m going to start with CL grids to shift colors of the image towards teal and orange. First, I will rotate the grids until one of the grid passes through the colors I need, that is, through teal and orange. The colors have matched on the bottom grid, so I fold the points of the top grid to the neutrals. Thus, I will shift image colors towards orange and teal. How it works is shown in detail in the video about CL grids; there is a separate video on this topic on the channel.
Now I will go to Channel mixer and switch it to the camera calibration mode. In this mode, Channel mixer will work similarly to the Camera Calibration module in Lightroom. In this mode, you can adjust the skin color by just moving one point. I will make the skin more saturated and orange, as it is in the reference.
As I already mentioned before, the reference image has a certain color harmony, but it also has certain color toning. I’m going to copy it using Curve extraction function in 3D LUT Creator. I click on Grade button. The curves can be smoothed out a bit. It remains to use Luminance/Saturation curve to make the saturated colors darker, and the neutral ones a little lighter to give the image a contrast. Let’s compare before and after. The images are very similar but in the BEFORE photo there are blue shades, and my curves repaint them. I would like to leave cold colors. To do this, I will use color mask. The mask will be applied only to curves. I’m going to use mask based on image warmth. Done! Here is before, here is after.
Let's load some more photos and see how my LUT applies to them. Here is a photo before, here is after. I’m going to load one more photograph. Here is before, here is after.
That's all, I hope this video was useful to you! See you in the new one! Bye everyone!
