Imagine a 5,000-pound Chevy Tahoe barreling down the highway at 140 miles per hour, ignoring every red light and crossing medians like they don't exist. This isn't a movie—it’s a 40-minute gauntlet across Central Florida that left a trail of sparks and a path of destruction. From a failed pit maneuver to a final showdown at a truck stop, this is the story of how one driver put everyone at risk, and the troopers who wouldn't let him get away.
Investigators say Daquann Marquise Stephens repeatedly fled from Florida Highway Patrol, driving a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe at extreme speeds while weaving through traffic, crossing medians, driving across grassy shoulders, and refusing to stop even after the first PIT maneuver damaged an FHP patrol vehicle.
One of the most unforgettable moments came when the damaged patrol car continued down the interstate with its front-end assembly dragging across the pavement, sending a shower of sparks into the night before the trooper removed the damaged equipment and rejoined the pursuit.
The chase finally came to an end at a Pilot Travel Center in Wildwood, Florida, where multiple law enforcement vehicles boxed in the Tahoe and Stephens was taken into custody at gunpoint.
A subsequent search of the SUV uncovered approximately $8,018 in cash, 11 cell phones, marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, and multiple credit and debit cards.
