Spam Alert! The edible kind! Whether you enjoy it fried up with eggs, served on toast, or straight out of the can, this versatile dish is well known for its square shaped can.

But did you know that square cans have been used for canned meat for generations? From sardines to corned beef, folks were transporting and eating their protein from square cans for over 100 years. The shape of a can is just one tool that archaeologists can use to help us learn about the people who were in the area it was found. We also look at the type of soldering used to close the can and how it was applied.

It is always fun to learn about what and how people were preparing their meals in the past and speaking of, please excuse me while I go up some Spam…
