Midday winds were up to 30 mph from the south. By 5 PM they had subsided to 15 mph, permitting safe drone flight and photography of the dynamics of a variety of waves. Note the degree of suspended sand as indicated by the brown color next to the south pier, due to considerable turbulence. Also note how this sandy water is drawn along the pier and ejected into the open waters beyond the lighthouse. This is evidence of a dangerous riptide that often occurs on the windward side of structures in large bodies of water. Watch the gulls surf the updrafts created by each wave. Finally, notice the complexity of the waves interacting with each other: size, direction and color. Layer upon layer of wave complexity starts to become evident if you watch for it.
