Checking on my ripening Soursop fruit, not seeming quite ready. A few days later I wake up to 6 on the ground! The next day another few, raining soursops :D
If you grow this super fruit make sure you pick a whole bunch when the 1st one starts to soften. They will soften up and ripen quickly before you know it they are on the ground like what happened to me.
Best picked off tree when they are a little more firm as the flavour mellows out the riper it gets. The skin also start's to darken from sunburn or over ripeness.
Best eaten fresh off the tree, or chilled in the fridge for a hot day. Fruit has a tonne of cancer fighting qualities - do your own research. Leaves can be made into a tea which also has other medicinal properties.
My tree pictured was planted 2 years ago around 2meters tall. Currently it is around 5meters tall. It was around 2years old when I purchased it. Tree is a fast growing thick and dense foliage pattern until it starts fruiting which weighs down the branches opening up the tree. Loves hot humid weather but also can grow in cooler climates, granted you get little or no frost.
Last year it flowered on and off for about 6months of the year but nothing set fruit. This past year it has exploded in growth and fruit, with the last batch picked in January, currently has 1 small fruit growing and also a few flowers starting to open. We'll see the small fruit goes over the approaching winter.
