I did not plan to take a break that quickly again.
But if it had to be done, it also allowed me some more distance with recent finds, building a stroger connexion and appreciation for what you're about to listen.
This is something I implemented years ago, for my club DJing : as I was buying new releases, I decided that I already had enough material to not need to play those records straight away. I would let a relationship build, grow my own takes and ways to play them, as they were fading away from the new release cycle & hype, and no one else was playing them anymore. That's when I would start playing them out, those "unheralded classics of mine" ^^.
The dictatorship of the new release cycle has always bugged me, and this season sees it at full force, with everyone coming up with their 2025 lists... You'll see many people seek a sort of concensus, for legitimity's sake. And that's quite boring, isn't it? That's how December becomes the confirmation bias month, and I can't wait to stop lamenting over my fellow record and music lover already!
I know I know, a little dramatic. But through this stream, I constantly look for a sense of timelessness rather than the flavor of the month, the shiny but disposable tunes that you sh/could move on from as often as possible. And the latter is perfectly fine. But in this video, we'll hopefully go the other way around. Let me know if we did just that!
