This week, I was thinking about the meaning of those thumbnail I put together each week. I always mean them disruptive, either in a serious manner, or a humorous one, or both at the same time. I was thinking about a coule of pictures I wanted to use, difficult ones, ones that might put some people off. Not because those are just shock value for its own sake, far from that, but I could understand one would not click on a link that features a picture of crippled kids from Lebanon in 1976.
And yet, seing those felt important to me, giving me an additional level of empathy for non flashy history. And isn't the music I play one that needs a little push to reach an audience, one that might at first hear sound outside of your comfort zone? But should I risk paying a price for adding an extra layer to the underlying goal of this stream?
Mood also plays a role in this. And today is not great. I discovered someone I trusted with the estate of my dad had played the sympathy card to get access and scam me and my sister. I knew there was a little something off with the fellow, but I had to deal with the local and temporal emergency of the situation, and take my chances. And that proved heartbreaking, and brought some pretty loathsome violence upon myself...
Taking a chance on music is harmless, I think. But is it? The potential reward, we all understand, but what are the costs, if there are any? During this stream, I'll present a record that is 100% a leap of faith, a tribute to an artist i value very very high. Will it pan out? You be the judge of it.
Yesterday, against admonishment,
my daughter balanced on the couch back,
fell and cut her mouth.
Because I saw it happen I knew
she was not hurt, and yet
a child’s blood so red
it stops a father’s heart.
My daughter cried her tears;
I held some ice
against her lip.
That was the end of it.
Round and round: bow and kiss.
I try to teach her caution;
she tries to teach me risk.
