Sony wants to abandon fans? Let's give them a small taste of their own medicine!
Together with other creators we call for a 1 week #PSBlackout in August. No logins, no play sessions, no purchases on any of Sony's platforms.
Sony held its planned Phantom Blade Zero State of Play livestream with — somewhat surprisingly — the comments turned on, and they went exactly how everyone thought they would. Yesterday Sony sent an email to spit in your face once more, reminding everyone that you own nothing in the digital world by their ToS. Simultaneously, the number of trolls/bots shit-posting under #PSBlackout posts or criticism towards Sony has massively increased on many socials SONY is sending out emails updating and reminding people of their PlayStation terms. short version what it says: I can't understate how much I'm praying for Ps6 to sell terribly, I loved playing on Playstation systems for like a decade now, trophy hunted and all, but this is really starting to be impossible to defend
- You don't own your digital games, you rent a license
- If a account closed or banned your games are gone, even paid ones
- PlayStation can record your chats, clips, ip address
- Clips you share, they can sell and put ads on and you get no cut
- their liability is capped at £100! This means if Sony screws something up and it costs you money, the most they'll pay you back is £100, no matter how much you actually lost
The YouTube chat, for example, was dominated by “no disc no buy” comments, which drowned out comments about the promising looking action game itself. It was a similar situation on Twitch.
None of this should come as a surprise, given fans had called out this first State of Play since Sony’s announcement sent shockwaves through the video game industry as a likely battleground for the ongoing backlash to the impending end of PlayStation disc production from 2028.
