Playthrough of ring keeper mode with Knuckles. The SEGA Ages version of Sonic 2 was originally released in 2020. It has everything from the original game, and also allows you to play as Knuckles, emulating the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on technology. It also features a couple of challenge modes, such as getting 100 rings as quickly as possible in Emerald Hill’s first act.
There are also some modes you can unlock by beating the game, like ring keeper mode. In ring keeper mode, if you get hit, you lose some of your rings, but not all of them. You also start each act with 10 rings, including Death Egg Zone, which to me is great because I never liked you not having rings in that level despite needing to take on two bosses. Plus you can defeat the final boss much faster when you’ve got rings.
I died in at the Metropolis Zone boss due to me getting greedy. I should have waited for super mode to run out, then collected the rings just before the boss, then fought the boss. I went in thinking I had enough time to quickly defeat the boss, I forgot how much invincibility time he gets between hits. And don’t take Knuckles gambling -I have never seen FOUR tiple Robotniks from the same slot machine in Casino Night before!
Embarrassing fact time: I never realized that many of the ring requirements in the special stages are lower for Knuckles than they are for Sonic until now. I thought many of these special stages were too hard, but they’re way easier for Knuckles.
