Jeff Fowler, director of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, sits down for an interview to celebrate the home release of the film, and the fact Sonic 2 is now the highest grossing video game film of all time!
Fowler is of course, no stranger to Sonic as he also directed the first film. Prior to breaking out and directing the biggest video game adaptation of all time, Fowler was predominantly an animator working for different studios. The first Sonic was actually his feature film debut, but now the future looks bright for the filmmaker, possibly helming Sonic 3 (which is almost a certainty) and the upcoming 'Pink Panther' adaptation.
In Sonic 2, After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of a mystical emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
During the interview, Fowler discusses the adventure of making the first two films, including the improvisation genius of Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, how you piece together giant puzzles like the Sonic films, how he an his team redesigned 'Ugly Sonic' after the first trailer did not get a great reaction from the fans, and most importantly... will Jim Carrey return as Dr Robotnik in the sequel?
