Sonic actually appeared with green eyes before the launch of Sonic Adventure! This issue was released 21st October 1998, a full year before Sonic Adventure came out in the west and several months before it came out in Japan. The strip itself was drawn many months before its release too. Of cause Sonic is simply possessed in this story and doesn't keep his green eyes, but its a crazy coincidence that the following year, Modern Sonic would arrive with his signature Green Eyes! As far as I'm aware this is the first canon/official images of Sonic with Green Eyes.
