Fresh out of the box we have two brand new Rails Exclusive A5 Pacific Tanks that have joined company with Custom Weathered 5167.
The latter is on an extended visit from a good customer in Belgium and received a polished / in use finish in the weathering studio. In stunning Great Central lined green livery, albeit with LNER number and branding, this is another superb Rails Exclusive model and significantly is the debut 00 Gauge locomotive by Sonic models.
Meanwhile, the two black arrivals are just as handsome looking as the green machine and a plethora of detail differences between all 3 is immediately evident reflecting their respective eras.
Most obvious are varying chimneys, smoke box doors & dart / handles, top feed arrangements, lamp iron positions, whistle positions, bunker rails and the inclusion of cab windows on the black locomotives.
Sonic Models and @railsofsheffield have nailed it with these long lived and big Great Central tank engines. Furthermore, the A5 is an inspired choice as the real locos were imposing, characterful and somewhat enigmatic in that none were preserved. Even the wheel arrangement is relatively unusual for a tank engine after the pre grouping era. Off the top of my head, I canât think of any Pacific tanks that have steamed in preservation days đ€
Iâm a BR steam fan through and through and I love this early crest example, but both of these smart LNER liveries are extremely attractive and are beautifully executed on the models.
