Many locos that pass through the weathering workshop are glamorous express locomotives that receive a nice shiny polish. But I'm delighted to show here one of my favourites - the humble Midland 4F. This is the excellent Bachmann model and has been given generous lashings of soot, ash, coal dust and road dirt to really make her look the part on a typically slow unfitted goods train.
For those of you that demand a little more glamour then keep watching as the goods is looped to allow an express to overtake. Another express storms through the lower level station for good measure.
The Neville Grove workshop transforms ready to run model trains with various weathering effects and techniques. Both the distressed appearance of an old 4F workhorse, as well as the 'oily-rag' sheen of a gleaming express locomotive can be recreated to bespoke specifications. Filmed on the in house model railway, the video footage is then carefully synchronised with sound of the real locomotives, using original "Transacord" recordings taken in the 1950s and 1960s by Peter Handford.
