There is a zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 that was never used. The Act 1 of this zone was never used in Sonic & Knuckles or Sonic 3 & Knuckles. However, the Act 2 was used for the ending in Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. If you try to access this level in S&K or S3&K you will see a title card reading "Hidden Palace Zone" before the game resets to the title screen.
