When Ryan sent this to me all he said was “Moon Tooth vibes” and that was all I needed. (Moon Tooth is a band, check them out, they’re cool). I hadn’t had my double pedal set up in probably over a year but this song presented some opportunities for it so I decided to bring it out (headphones recommended for listening by the way). I struggled coming up with something for the intro but it all fell into place the day I recorded it. I also struggled with the second half of the guitar solo.. The song repeats what I would call the chorus during that part, so I kept playing my chorus part for it. The problem was that after the solo ends it goes back into the chorus, so my part was starting to sound stale and repetitive. I was pretty stumped on it, but my student Michael sent me his version and I decided to break my rule of not having any outside influences and watched his before I finished mine. He plays a part on the floor tom that I thought sounded really good, and I decided to take that idea and put my own stamp on it for the second half of the guitar solo and it worked really well. So thanks dude! Since the point of these is to be influenced by each other’s parts, I’m going to start posting my videos when they’re ready instead of waiting until the 1st of each month. If you want to wait until you’re done with yours to watch it, cool.
