This is my updated take on Bob Dylan's 1963 song "Only a Pawn in the Game". The original song was written to shine light upon the assassination of black civil rights leader Medger Evers. Here we use the tune and rewrite the lyrics to point our skewer at the current source of hatred in America, a place where it seems the oppressed have become the oppressors. God help us all, and God bless Charlie Kirk and his family.
A bullet from the top of the roof
took Charlie Kirk's blood
a finger fired the trigger to his name.
While handlers hid out in the dark
a hand set the spark
two eyes took the aim
behind a man's brain
But he can't be blamed
He's only a pawn in their game.
The woke politician preaches to an ignorant mass.
You're all victims, you need to complain.
They hate you for this, they will kill you for that, they explain.
And the poor student's brains
Are all set all aflame
in the politician's game
as she rises to fame
and the young folks remain
on the caboose of the train
But it ain't them to blame
They're only a pawn in the game.
The BLM rioters, ANTIFA recruiters get paid.
And the Soros DA's get the same.
But the young commie fool is used and abused like a tool.
They're taught in the schools.
From the start by the rules.
DEI is with them
to promote cause of skin
too keep up their hate
so they never think straight
'bout the shape that they're in
But it ain't them to blame.
They're only a pawn in the game.
In college dorms, they look to conform to a norm.
Not knowing what “normal” even means.
And they're taught how to scream about race
to burn down your place
with their fists in a clinch.
To stab in the neck.
And pick up a check.
While the media frames.
And their GoFundMe pays.
For the lawyer's refrains,
while the student remains
Only a pawn in their game.
The day Charlie Kirk was buried from the bullet he caught
They lowered him down as a King.
But when the shadowy sun sets on the one
that fired the gun
He'll see by his grave
on the stone that remains
carved next to his name
his epitaph plain
