“Song For America” is one of my all time favorite Kansas songs. This music exemplifies the great diversity and support for people who are different and pursue non-conformity as a lifelong mission. Beautiful and different colors and personalities and expressions defines humanity. In our time of healing, this reminds me of how grateful I am to have been born to a family of artists and musicians in this great land.
From my grandfather in 1910 at the age of 25 getting a job as Henry Ford’s architect. To my big family of aunts and uncles and my dad . Seven children moving from Canada to Long Island in 1925. All self made people. All 5 sons of my grandparents fought in World War II. From artisans to craftsmen to professors at universities to a Pulitzer prize winning journalist to musicians to all sorts of incredible talents are in my family. All self-made and active in the arts. And at this time, we must support our arts and our music programs throughout this country. That defines us. It exemplifies a great nation when the support of the arts is upheld and created as an example of its greatness….
