Sometimes the problem is just your brain going on autopilot.

In this live coaching moment, the sentence on the page was:
“Don’t destroy it.”

But my student read:
“Doesn’t destroyed it.”

His brain filled in words and sounds that weren’t actually there. This happens all the time when you’re speaking a second language.

One of the most important skills in accent training is learning to HEAR YOURSELF while you’re speaking. When you develop that awareness, you can catch mistakes in real time and correct them immediately.

That’s exactly what we worked on here: noticing the extra sound, pausing, and fixing it.

Accent work involves a lot of building awareness and control over what your mouth is actually doing.
