Take 36 of “Something” served as the foundation for the final master, but much of John Lennon’s piano part was later stripped away in the official mix. In this video, we highlight the full performance as it originally existed — revealing rhythmic ideas, and harmonic movements that were mostly buried or muted in the released version.

Here, Lennon’s piano is notably clearer and more active here, supporting Harrison’s composition with subtle chord variations and melodic motion reminiscent of his early solo-era style (seen in later years). You can also hear the descending piano line that survived into the final mix, now placed within the broader context of his complete part.

As the take winds down, the band slips into a relaxed end-of-take jam, offering a candid glimpse of their dynamic during the Abbey Road sessions.
