It was 10:00am on June 23rd, 2025, and a search team was combing a shallow gulch which runs southwest of missing hiker Monica Reza’s last known position. The crew was about seven hundred feet down the gentle slope when someone spied a splash of color amidst the grays and browns of the rocky terrain, and as they drew closer, it became clear what they were looking at. It was a bright red beanie which perfectly matched the one seen in pictures from that day, when it was tucked loosely into Reza’s belt as she made her way down the Upper West Ridge trail from the summit of Waterman Mountain in Angeles National Forest. At first, that looked like great news. It had been just 25 hours since someone last made contact with Monica, they had a thermal equipped helicopter flying overhead, and now they had a good idea of which direction she might’ve gone. In other words, if ever there was a situation where a missing hiker should be found, it was this one…or so you would think. Welcome back to The Lore Lodge...
