A homicide investigation is underway in Somers after Connecticut State Police responded around 4 a.m. and found a person suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The person was pronounced dead, and another person was detained at the scene.

Loved ones identified the person killed as 34-year-old Mark Morgan of Enfield. His family and friends remembered him as a devoted father who leaves behind two young sons. Police have not released the names of the parties involved or a motive for the shooting.

The Department of Children and Families says it is investigating the incident in connection with Connecticut State Police. Authorities have not said whether children were inside the Somers home at the time of the shooting.
