CassetteMaster | Some Interesting Smoke Detectors -- Ionization with Radioactive Material @CassetteMaster | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 34 seconds ago
Here are some old Pyrotronics smoke detector modules from I believe the 1970s. These units contain radioactive material, Americium 241, 0.8µCi. I believe these old detectors must be rare.
These were found in an old abandoned (Simplex) fire alarm panel in the basement of a building. One of them I got working, and successfully detected smoke.
Although it is a common requirement to replace smoke detectors every 10 years, it is quite something to see one of these detectors still work after about 40 years of time.
