There are friendships that don’t just pass through your life…they shape it.
Nikki is one of mine.
I knew her back at ETHS when she was a senior and I was just a junior watching her move through the world with this quiet confidence and presence that made you pay attention. I looked up to her then… and honestly, I still do in different ways now.
Not long after, life did what it does when you’re young and brave…we took off to Atlanta together, chasing music, chasing possibility, chasing something we could feel but couldn’t fully name yet. It turned into a real journey. I toured with La Face Records, and Nikki stepped into her own lane too…becoming the lead of a dynamic all-girl group that took her across the country and even overseas.
Those days were star-studded - parties, performances, late nights, early flights, and having a blast almost every single day. It was the kind of life that felt like it was moving at the speed of sound. Wild in the best way. Fast. Unpredictable. Full of lessons you don’t forget.
And what always grounded it for me was knowing we shared that same rare kind of history…people from that world understand it without needing too many words.
Life eventually shifted her path. Nikki stepped away from the industry to build a family with her high school sweetheart, Mark Loyd Muhammad. Together they raised two beautiful, successful children, pouring into them with love, structure, and intention.
And now… I get to witness her coming back to what she loves…with her husband right there supporting her every step of the way.
There’s something powerful about that kind of return. Not a restart, but a reclamation.
I’m just really proud of you, Nikki. Proud of the journey, the resilience, the love you built, and the way you’re stepping back into your gift on your own terms.
Some friendships age like gold.
This one has only gotten richer with time.
