Study The Votes. Study The Behavior. Study The Patterns.
People need to stop letting polished language and political performances distract them from the RECORD.
Because the same councilmembers now suddenly talking about “protecting seniors,” “preventing displacement,” and “keeping homeowners in their homes” are the SAME councilmembers who stalled, weakened, watered down, and politically killed the Circuit Breaker when residents were crying out for relief.
Homeowners could have already been receiving assistance LAST YEAR.
Not hypothetically.
Not someday.
LAST YEAR.
Families struggling under rising property taxes could have had real relief in 2025 and early 2026.
But five councilmembers made sure that did not happen:
Krissie Harris.
Bobby Burns.
Shawn Iles.
Jonathan Nieuwsma.
And Juan Geracaris.
Now suddenly, after backlash and residents waking up politically, the language changed.
Now they want to sound compassionate.
Now they want to talk about displacement.
Now they want to sound concerned about gentrification.
Pay attention to the PATTERNS.
Because when real relief was actually on the table…
they delayed it.
They redirected it.
They weakened it.
That is not leadership.
That is politics.
And the Circuit Breaker would have NOT involved a third-party organization to take their cut off the top, muddying the political waters. The Circuit Breaker was clean - direct to the resident. These five councilmembers did NOT want "clean".
And while we’re talking about patterns…
At the recent Waste Management Transfer Station town hall led by Krissie Harris and Bobby Burns, a longtime resident stood up and reminded the room that Councilmember Clare Kelly had already been working on protecting residents near that station BEFORE becoming a councilmember.
Several attendees also shared their impressions that, as the meeting wrapped up, residents expressed frustration that meaningful action felt out of reach…saying it would likely require too much cost, too much coordination, and too much work from the councilmembers involved to move anything forward in a serious way. One resident also said she left the meeting feeling embarrassed by the quality of leadership on display.
Then a Black resident stood up and said, verbatim:
“Councilmember Clare Kelly is a leader for the people!”
That moment mattered.
Because while others were talking…
Clare was already doing the work.
Separately, at another City Council meeting several weeks ago, Clare Kelly pushed to explicitly include the word “gentrification” in the Strategic Housing Plan.
Residents in attendance said they noticed resistance to naming it directly.
Several attendees also said they observed Bobby Burns minimizing the importance of explicitly naming gentrification during that discussion.
And some residents further reported that Krissie Harris appeared disengaged during portions of the exchange, with a few saying it looked like she was quietly eating snacks while Clare Kelly was trying to gain support for naming displacement directly in city policy language.
These are the kinds of details people dismiss as “small.”
But they are not small.
They are signals.
And signals matter in politics.
Because this is how political conditioning works.
People slowly begin lowering their expectations of what leadership should actually do for them.
And now, some residents fear the push to protect neighborhoods from the Waste Transfer Station could eventually become another justification for raising property taxes.
I encourage residents to watch the FULL May 27, 2026 City Council meeting for themselves.
Do not rely on clips alone.
Watch the body language.
Watch the contradictions.
Watch who suddenly changed their language once public pressure intensified.
Everything starts making more sense when you stop listening only to speeches and start studying behavior and patterns.

And as for Mayor Daniel Biss…
many residents are now questioning whether any of this was ever truly a priority for him at all.
Because while residents were struggling under rising taxes, displacement fears, and growing frustration over affordability…
the perception among many in the community is that he was already focused on something else:
his own political future.
And when people begin feeling like their daily survival matters less than political positioning, trust starts collapsing fast.
That is why residents are paying closer attention now.
Not just to speeches.
But to priorities.
To timing.
To behavior.
And to patterns.
