This camp was destined to fail right from the start! My original plan was to summit Birks, then on to St Sunday crag to wildcamp the night. As usual I planned my route meticulously, and checked the roads on Google maps, everything was fine. I hit the road, past Penrith and on to Ullswater, everything was fine, no signs of road closures or roadworks. 4 miles short of Patterdale and disaster strikes, road ahead CLOSED! I pull over and check Google again, maps are clear, and a search says the road is open! So I pull round again, this time the signs are down, so I got a little further and the road is getting resurfaced, completely impassable! I pull into the nearest lay-by near Aira force and desperately rack my brains for a very quick plan B ! By now it was getting late in the day, 2pm, so I needed a quick simple single summit that was close by. Only one sprang to mind, Armboth fell, 6 miles away...perfect....OR WAS IT! I knew it had a reputation for being wet underfoot, but thought I would manage to find somewhere for the tent to go up. I drive out to Thirlmere, park up at Armboth car park, quickly get the rucksack on and head out into the wilds. A beautiful trail right from the start, bridges, waterfalls, the burnt copper of the bracken was just beautiful, and very quickly Thirlmere was out of shot and im on the fell tops. Most of the path so far had been like a river, and on hitting the open fells it was an absolute quagmire, mud almost over the top of my boots, but I make it to the top, Wainwright number 112 done and boshed.....now to find a pitch for the night πŸ’ͺ........NOT A CHANCE.....2 hours I searched high and low for a pitch, nothing anywhere, devastated I make my way back to the car. BUT I got a walk and a summit in, I could have just gone home at Ullswater, I got some fresh air, hit a summit and spent some time in nature. I tried my very best, sorry to let you all down, I'll be back out as soon as I can πŸ’™ If you would like some of my merchandise, heres a link for you A Cumbrian Lad Outdoors Merch | Cardz Unique https://share.google/nDUHG5U3vBTuXEkv4
