Camping in a thunderstorm isn't something I would recommend you intentionally set out to do, on this occasion there were thunderstorms forecast at home, and I picked this area as there were nothing more than a few showers forecast. I parked up at Lamplugh, and very quickly found myself at the first destination of the day, Cogra Moss reservoir, although small its very picturesque, and made a lovely start to the days adventure. On leaving the reservoir we walked through part of a woodland and out into the fells to begin the ascent to Blake fell, the first Wainwright summit of the day. A nice easy ascent with fantastic views, which open up to 360 at the top, yiu can see Buttermere, Crummock water and their surrounding fells, as well as Ennerdale water, for such a small summit the views really are stunning and I highly recommend this one. From there we take the short walk over to the second Wainwright summit of the day, Burnbank fell, a very unassuming summit, with the cairn being a pile of rocks by a fence. At this point we had a few showers of rain and nothing more, and the wind had been reasonably strong all day, but the sun was out, so we managed a good few hours relaxing in the chairs and catching up. We could see rain coming and all of a sudden the wind stopped, so we decided to pitch the tents and get something to eat, I got in my tent just in time, and the rain started. At this point I take a look.at the new power bank Nitecore sent me, the NB Air 5000ma I'm determined to get below 3kg for a wildcamp this year so shaving grams off my packweight is the perfect way to achieve this, especially when you consider this powerbank is 89 grams! here's a link for you to check it out Nitecore NB Air | Nitecore.co.uk https://share.google/O9AQqoxwfLLQuaHjg and heres a link to the main website to check out their other items nitecore.com The wind then returned, and combined with the rain the Durston was taking a bit of a battering, but holding strong 💪 we could still talk to each other from inside the tents, but unfortunately weren't able to get back out into the chairs. Then the thunder and lightning started, flashes lighting up the sky, and huge rattles of thunder, some right above us! this continued until around midnight, which is when I finally dozed off. On waking the wind really had picked up, and was around the 50 mph mark, the Durston really was taking a pasting, yet still stood strong as an ox, with only a small amount of slippage on the guy lines to show! On getting out of the tent the fog was really thick, and combined with the wind we were getting wet and cold very quickly, packing up.the tents wasn't easy, but we did it as quickly as possible, and started our descent in the thick fog. Navigation was tricky due to the fog, and visibility was very poor, but the Garmin Fenix 7 pro kept us on track, when we returned to the reservoir the wind had dropped but it was still foggy, which made it look even more stunning. What a great trip out, and it was exhilarating to experience my first full thunderstorm in a tent. Im unbelievably impressed with the Durston X-mid 2 pro, for a trekking pole tent to handle weather like that is unreal.
